April Showers With The March Violets?

Over at Sims Forums, it has been peaks and troughs of activity, with there being the danger last week of tempers becoming frayed as Minty continues trying to keep some sort of momentum going.

The first signs things were not well was when he did another rearrangement to bring the storytellers (who have proven a very real shot across the activity bows at Sims Forums) more to prominance…

…only to get the following from one of the storywriters in question.

Yes, complaining about a SMILEY not being added.

However, elsewhere in General Discussion (the old Off Topic section) she moaned about the changes and for an encore started calling the place ‘dead’.

This time, he snapped.

Uh oh – and to be honest we could see it coming.

Any doubts we had that Earth Mama was attempting to provoke were dispelled by what happened when in an attempt to get some sort of activity going, Minty made a topical post and yet again Earth Mama decided to drag an argument from elsewhere into it.

This wasn’t trying to be jokey, this was being a cow for the sake of being a cow.

The question is, was there an ulterior motive?

A few weeks earlier, Earth Mama had been demanding coloured links and more smilies, during which came up some rather interesting comments from her.

What’s with all the ‘I ran a forum once’ and I-know-this-and-I-know-that? If that’s the case, why wasn’t she offering her services during the various migration issues debacles facing Matt back in 2010: to say nothing of the sundry other problems that the forum’s had over the past two years.

And what’s all this ‘we the mass users’ from someone that f**ked off to the EA forums leaving Cororon, Minty and Ollie effectively holding the ship alone for the best part of over a year.

Since her return to the Sims Forums, Earth Mama seems to have done more to make WaffenThinMint regret coaxing her back than be glad of it. His own legacy hasn’t been updated since February after one complaining post after another from her on his thread so it appears he’s now decided it’s no longer worth the hassle.

But her recent spate of incessant niggles is rather strange coming on the back of a lot of the major problems at Sims Forums having now been cleared up – the tonne of spam, the tens of thousands of registered spambots dating back to the beginning of the forum in 2008, activity being spread across dozens of redundant sections.

Heaven forbid we suggest someone trying to now muscle their way into becoming a new moderator/admin now some other schmuck’s done all the hard work! Or even as a replacement: for with these events of the previous few days, Waffen by now might have started to think ‘why bother?’, especially when one of the moderators drafted in by Matt to help restore its fortunes last year (on the back of threatening to leave because no one was posting), was being just a touch smug about recruiting someone to join another forum entirely!

She can hardly deny it, all the evidence remains up at Paco1200’s blog.

As we’ve mentioned before, something that Sims Forums has been notable for is the number of people joining for help with technical queries (and never heard from again thereafter!) – usually with Minty being the responder – so to see a SF moderator then recommending to someone to go elsewhere for tech help is just a bit of a kick in the gob.

However, if Minty is feeling pissed about things, there’s no outward signs, starting a thread on that old March Violet staple of J K Rowling upon news of her new book, which has saw the reappearence of Bobert, and Amiisay starting one for showing off their Simmies such as those from her Carstairs legacy (already up to Chapter 21 in under two months! Where does she find the time?!?!?)

But we do find ourselves worrying that his interest in keeping SF ship-shape again may start to sag if it appears to be all for nothing more than a few weeks stay of execution – and from what’s gone on before it will be devil-takes-the-hindmost there if that happens.

One other forum change however we did spot although this time it wasn’t mentioned out loud, and we think we know why. Firstly the appointment of Ollie as a moderator…

  

We’ve also noticed the long threatened sacking of Munsta (aka Bad Romance) and Majick as moderators has finally taken place – both being busted down to regular posters (which in both their cases is about once a year anyway!), which is the best news we’ve heard for ages. We’ve waited two years to see that pair of lazy lying twats to get found out and thrown out – parting is such sweet bloody brilliant!
