Nice try, Pinnochio

Do you think the people on the EA forum were born yesterday?

So a crack team of script kiddies managed to get their way into the EA forum administrator functions and delete all manner of posts – many of which, by a remarkable coincidence happened to take up a lot of room – and also managed to nuke Walden 95’s stickied threads which, amongst other things, contained a listing of useful posts made on the EA Forum, many of which were the victims of the ‘hackers’.

Yet, somehow the stickied threads of Hydra and the other SimGurus miraculously went untouched?

Sorry to sound a bit suspicious, but if you were some evil hacker type person, wouldn’t you want to target the ‘big guns’ first – ie. the real moderators threads especially for the ‘lulz’ and not merely that of the common or garden users on the board?

And – oh-deary-me! – a forum run on the behalf of a professional company had no up-to-date back-up of their systems allowing them to retrieve the lost threads in whole or even part – isn’t that such a shame?

Unfortunately SimGuru Hydra, one of your own staff told a different story two days before!

Ho hum.

Or is the story now that the hackers managed to get in with remarkably fortuitous timing as the scheduled maintanence team got to work so their own demolition went unnoticed until it was too late? Sounds like someone’s been watching too many previews of the next Harry Potter movie with Harry, Hermione and Ron sneaking into the Ministry Of Magic disguised as maintenence staff?

Thankfully, Simmers can take advantage of search engine caches to retrieve the missing information, as LefthandedGeek demonstrated.

Here’s the two links in question: Bing and Google for Walden95’s stuff.

Our guess is that this is a repeat run of the nonsense earlier in the year when they ‘accidentally’ scrubbed a lot of threads when reorganising the forums that just happened to free up a lot of space which the Exchange ‘Rapture’ failed to because so many big fat uploaded their stuff all over again.

Funny how this ‘accident’ happened with a week to go until a new EP and the bumper array of new threads likely to come with it?

And just think Walden95, now you can post up all that information all over again in your spare time, but now ‘tidied up’ without some of the rambles of others needing to be there, all shiny and new and requiring much less space on their precious server, whilst the SimGurus get paid to sit at their desks stuffing themselves with Deep Fried Twinkies.

Same applies to Simmerville’s Create-A-World, which was getting rather long as well.

Etc.

Like Hell they got ‘hacked’, this is a bit of internal butchery masquerading as ‘net-terrorism’.

Afraid of having to go through the flak they did over the Exchange cull, the buggers have learned now to simply have these mass wipeouts to free up server space without bothering to give any advance warning to the great unwashed (ie. you!), and if your stuff gets totalled in the process, well that’s just tough s**t, you should have backed it up yourself – anyone would think it was their job to maintain their own forum!

You can’t trust these buggers an inch.

Folks, if it’s something for which you care, post it up elsewhere!
