Before we forget again (we still can’t quite believe it!)

For Sparks, Hippopotamus marks their first UK Top Ten album since their 1974 heyday and their first anywhere since Sweden in 1975.  For the Waterboys, the first time they’ve been in the UK Top Ten since 1993’s Dream Harder twenty four years earlier.

No real surprise that both being back on a major label (indeed the same major label – BMG) has meant getting a better chance of being heard – if you wandered into any HMV or Fopp store in the country over the last fortnight it was inevitable if you were in for at least three quarters of an hour you would eventually hear one of these two songs being played, never mind the posters being up and both albums getting reviewed in just about every newspaper in the land to rave reviews.

Even so, we’ve saw better albums get all that and still do miserably, so nice to see two we’ve a bit of a soft spot for (one of which keeps an eye on us  after we did the following) getting back into the limelight again.

Which reminds us, it’s been a while since we last inflicted ‘Now That I Own The BBC’ on you lot, isn’t it?

Oh, okay then, let’s make it ones from the new albums…
